Dreams are weird. Time runs oddly in dreams. Things that don't seem right are accepted as part of the norm. Fears and hopes are drawn to the fore as the subconscious works through them. People who should not be there.. are.

You know what's more weird? Waking up when you're 13 and realizing you can manipulate dreams. Then looking in the mirror and realizing you've changed. Magic is weird. Not being completely detached from dreams is weird. Having to be careful who you touch because a stray thought can screw with their head? That's a pain in the butt.

Artemis Jones is quiet.. ish. Of definite Native American ancestry, her black hair and darker skin are constant. As are the formerly brown eyes, now a pale blue with an orange ring around the pupil. Her cheerful (if at times day-dreamy) demeanor makes her somewhat easy to get along with. Just.. don't mind her if she suddenly phases through things. She can't help it.

Standing a little under 6 feet tall when barefoot, Artemis Jones is built somewhere between curvy and wiry. Her muscles are toned from working in her jewelry shop as well as a few manual labor jobs here and there, but the toned muscles are off-set by curves that give her a mild hourglass shape. Her thick black hair is kept a bit longer than shoulder length and is naturally tinted with a bit of chestnut. Despite any efforts by her or others, the dark strands stay straight.

Her skin is dark, contrasting with the rich colors she typically wears in and out of her costume. Though she doesn't run around declaring herself to be Dreamwrought, she does little to avoid an admission should it come up. It's kind of hard to keep a secret identity when your abilities are ever present.

The Dreamer..

Emma Holiday, a member of the Navajo Dine in Northern Arizona, was a teacher. And though she had a level head and was responsible, a one time slip with her boyfriend of ten months left her pregnant. Four months before the child came into the world, her father ran off, leaving Emma alone to raise the child. After a ten hour labor, she was handed a crying baby girl she named Artemis Dawn.

Nearby members of her clan pitched in, allowing Emma to head back to work once Artemis was six months old. The little girl was never short on attention, though it was not lavished. She grew up happy, but full of respect for the people and things around her. Not to the degree that say Pocahontas in when singing to Jon Smith, but she wouldn't hesitate to punch a boy for calling an animal stupid. She eventually grew out of the punching phase... or maybe the other kids just learned to keep quiet.

Whatever it was, Artemis had a small circle of friends, and a larger circle of adults she felt comfortable around. She was a relatively easy child to raise. Content to play by herself or with others, she rarely put up a fuss when it came to chores or duties. It was simply something her family had raised her to be comfortable with.

She had a wild imagination and crazy good luck. Often times when she was into trouble, things would catch up with her only to turn out perfectly fine when all was said and done. She had a wild streak, preferring bare feet to shoes or socks, even when running through the reservation. Her laugh was infectious. Finding humor in many situations, Artemis would almost always double over in laughter. And it was never the quiet kind. It was honest, loud and carefree.

Emma continued to teach, tutoring in the summers. Around the year Artemis turned five, Emma met David Jones. David was a recent graduate of the University of Arizona's medical school and hand moved into the area to work at the nearby hospital. Artemis had spent the afternoon climbing trees, the activity only ending on account of her falling out of one. Ironically, it was from the second lowest branch, but she landed wrong and hand broken her arm.

The crying girl was taken to the hospital where David was acting head that day. Telling Artemis a few stories to calm her down, he managed to get her laughing and happy before her arm was fully set and cast. After giving her care instructions and a package of rainbow sharpies, he turned to ask Emma out to dinner.

Things and stuff. I'll get to it.

*Artemis has one necklaces which she never removes. Hanging on a long leather strand is a five inch long tip of elk antler as well as a free-hanging opal.*

*Her favorite flower is a tiger lily.*

*Artemis can speak not only English, but Spanish and her native tongue.*

*Arty hates okra, but is fairly open to anything else food-wise. She not-so secretly adores hummus on her sandwiches in place of mayonnaise.*

*Artemis typically smells like a mixture of Shea butter, roses and sandalwood. If she's recently come from her studio, though, she smells slightly more chemical overtop of those scents thanks in large part to the silver, heat, ceramic, glaze and various items she uses to make her jewelry.*

*Artemis has an etsy shop under the name Dreamchanted, where she sells a few of her pieces that aren't commissioned or sent to a local jewelry store.*

Family

  • Grey - After finding him comatose on the Talos beach, Arty stopped her rage run and fixed him up. Conversation started and it turned into an easy kind of company. She brought him to the Damoclese for a tour and more talking. In the middle of Arty's internal upheaval, Jack quickly became a strong shoulder for the dreamer. When things with Shade went south, the bond between these two grew strong and reminded her that not all guys are jerks.
  • Pipedreamer - Emily is the result of her marriage with Shadeknight. The powerful dreamer, half fae, time traveler, whatever she is.. She's amazing.
  • Sneak Attack - Her first child with Grey Guard, Pete is blind, but less of an idiot than he sometimes wants you to think he is. She loves him all the same.
  • Splendiferous - Finch is the idiot. She just needs to stop trying so hard and let everyone hug her.
  • Jackie- Grey's Primaltorian, she is just as much family as anyone. Arty loves her chaotic energy and will destroy anyone who looks at her wrong.

Others

  • Ashley - Artemis is both impressed and proud of this young empath. She knows it cannot be easy to deal with that sort of mutation, and yet Ashley's determination to do good with it is one of the things Arty most admires about her. Offering herself as someone to both talk to and listen to, Ashley goes above and beyond what most heroes settle for.
  • Christopher - Her ex-husband. Though the two seemed to be madly in love, too many issues and indiscretions pushed them irreparably apart. Artemis returned his rings and handed him papers. She has a hard time looking at him without being upset, but considering he's her daughter's child, she deals.

Enemies

  • Ophoases - There are just NO words for the rage Arty feels toward this demon. No words. Even though she has separated from Chris... so much anger. She'd probably break the Aegis' no kill rule if he showed up... or at the very least, bind him in holy ropes and shove him into a time pocket oubliette. .. and now he seemingly has because Shadeknight can't get his shit together.

Come on... Speak your mind.

ö - "Hello, beautiful." Grey Guard
