Origin

Where it all Began

In the not so distant future relative to the universe, a galaxy within the local group twice the size of the Milky Way instantly perished due to an unknown, catastrophic event. Dubbed the Lost Galaxy Z, the "Lost Galaxy" or simply Galaxy Z, the simultaneous destruction of every single planet, moon and star caused a disturbance between the physical world and the cosmic realm. The remnants of this lost galaxy echoed with pain, coldness, darkness and loss of life, and over a period of 100 megaannum collected within the depths of the cosmic unknown. The dark matter accumulated until it birthed the vile entity known as the Outerworld Overlord.

The Overlord knew nothing but destruction and domination, and over a short period of time began to produce offspring of the same dark matter substance he was composed of. The Outerworld Overlord's armies quickly demonstrated just how monstrous of a force the Empire really was by subjugating the entirety of the Triangulum Galaxy. The great imbalance that this caused within the cosmos forced the specific portion of the cosmic realm overlapping the Local Group of galaxies to personify; birthing the entity known as The Cosmia, an entity of protection and creation. It is theorized that Universal Deities were responsible for initiating this event in order to restore balance to their governed Universe.

The First of the Keepers

With the ability to interact with the physical world, the Cosmia splintered her own cosmic spectrum into separate pieces or signatures. The cosmic energy of these signatures were imbued within special cosmia crystals and scattered across the Local Galaxies. The cosmia crystals traveled through the stars; each of its unique cosmic signature wavelengths destined in seeking out sentient, good-hearted, worthy individuals that could perfectly sync with them through the relationship between the physical and cosmic realms.

During this time, the Outerworld Overlord started to perceive the Cosmia as an opposing force, which prompted him to expand his reign by mass producing dark matter creatures tenfold. This marked the beginning and official formation of the Darkmatter Empire. At last, the first cosmia crystal and most powerful of all signatures found its suitable Keeper during the year 888,888 BCE of Earth's equivalent timeline. The first Keeper of the Cosmia, Horologium, made it his mission to accelerate the process of the cosmia crystals finding their destined keepers. During an era known as the Golden Age of Keepers, the other eldest Keepers came to be: Argo Navis, Phoenix, Monoceros, Draco and Ophiuchus.

The successful liberation of the Triangulum Galaxy drove back the Darkmatter Empire's occupation, and proved to the Outerworld Overlord that the power of the Keepers were not to be underestimated. And so, the eternal struggle between the Cosmia and the Outerworld Overlord began. Both sides refused to let up, with the Overlord ramping up his recruiting rate and the Keepers eventually founding the Cosmia Initiative to allow non-Keepers join their cause of galactic protection.

The Cosmic Realm

The Cosmic Realm, interchangeably known as the Cosmic Plane or Realm from which the Cosmia was born, is a dimension that overlaps the physical realm throughout the entire Universe. Credited to its name, this state of existence is composed entirely of what is referred to as cosmic energy. The Cosmic Realm has many different key locations, and through the perception of most sentient life-forms, is seen as a wide spectrum of colours and shapes of familiar objects and phenomena that can be witnessed in the physical realm (cosmic animal figures, cosmic plants, cosmic water, cosmic fire, etc.). This is what the cosmic spectrum is - all signatures of cosmic energy are represented by the Keepers of the Cosmia.

The Cosmic Realm has many locations, concepts and aspects: The Cosmic Heavens, the Cosmic Unknown (from which the Outerworld Overlord was said to be created), the Cosmic World Tree, the cosmic Eternal Moon and Sun, the Cosmic Hearth, the Cosmic Oceans and the Cosmic Deserts just to name a few. Though the Cosmic Realm weaves throughout the Universe, the Cosmia itself is only the embodiment of the section that overlaps the local group of galaxies in particular. There are still many aspects of this realm that most still don't know of or fully comprehend, such as the theory that there are other Cosmia-like entities and their Keepers that govern their own sections of the universe (and potentially even across the multiverse).

  • 2009-2018 CE- The Milky Way Plot. The D.M.E. cause several diversions in the form of terrorist threats and cosmic frequency disruptions, in order to secretly and securely develop their Cosmidissector. Using this superweapon capable of forcing some frequencies of the Cosmia spectrum to combine or separate, their main goal sought to prematurely stimulate Vela, Puppis and Carina's joining into Argo Navis in order to devastate the Milky Way Galaxy and catch Horologium off guard. The Cosmidissector also forces lost cosmic signatures to split from already existing signatures, trapping these signatures into Darkmatter crystals and granting worthy Darkmatter minions the powers of a Keeper. The aftermath of stopping this plot caused multiple Keepers to perish, and others to relinquish their cosmia crystals willingly. The dubbed "Lost Keeper" signatures are thought to have been destroyed along with the Darkmatter crystals that contained them.

Timeline of Current Events

  • November (2019)- Horologium's recent memory reset after traveling to Earth with Ophiuchus. Pavo soon joins them, having survived the Milky Way Plot.
  • January (2020) - Horologium appoints Earth as the temporary base of operations of the Keepers as a whole until the Factions and Alliances can rebuild. Cosmia Initiative outposts remain intact across the local galaxies to maintain coordination and surveillance.

  • April (2021)- Ophiuchus detects the rare occurrence of all the potential chosen ones of the Zodiac cosmia crystals being from Earth itself.
  • March (2022) - A new holder of the Sextans cosmia crystal is found and recruited.
  • August (2023) - The Cosmia reveals to Horologium that the signatures of the Lost Keepers have not been destroyed, and are, in fact, under the Cosmia's control again; placed within proper cosmic crystals to be used for the forces of good. This brings the total of potential Keepers now over 100.

Powers, Abilities and Utilities

The Cosmia Crystals

A cosmia crystal or cosmic crystal (used interchangeably) is a palm sized, star-shaped, transparent crystal composed of an unknown, nigh-indestructible element capable of containing the energy of an entire cosmic splinter, or "signature". In their more simplistic state (which is rare) they are hollow, though when filled with cosmic energy they gleam brightly of their colour on the Cosmia spectrum and become warm to the touch. Anyone can hold a cosmia crystal without any negative effects, but only those who have successfully "synced" with the contained signature are able to call upon its energy through connected willpower. Though the small space may not look like much, the cosmic energy that a cosmia crystal holds is extremely dense. The cosmia crystal allows its holder to open microrifts from the cosmic realm into the physical in order to replenish the consistently used cosmic energy - from whatever Cosmic Realm location or method the particular signature enables. In order to fully "activate" their cosmia crystal and surround themself with cosmic armor, the Keeper must will it so. When this happens, the crystal itself becomes the chest symbol of the cosmic armor. The phrase For the Cosmia! while holding up the crystal is the most effective focal point to achieve easy activation, though the most seasoned of Keepers, especially the elder Keepers, have the ability to activate their crystals without verbal expression. When a Keeper possesses a cosmic crystal as a synced chosen one, they share an idiosyncratic link with said crystal and can summon it to their hand from extremely long distances; even across dimensions.

Cosmic Powers

The Keepers of the Cosmia possess extraordinary powers both shared and unique, and all stem from the empowerment, projection, manipulation and utilization of the various flavours of cosmic energy that make up the Cosmic Realm. A Keeper only has total domain over the energy of their specific cosmic signature which causes all their powers to be perceived as the exact same colour.

Universal Powers

Universal powers are the basic abilities shared by all Keepers regardless of their cosmic signature.

ElectricArmor_SelfBuffDefense.png Cosmic Armor The trademark look of their unique costumes is the physical perception of cosmic armor. When activated, the cosmic energy contained within a cosmia crystal flows outward and surrounds its Keeper's entire body with the crystal itself becoming the chest insignia on the cosmic armor. The cosmic armor provides excellent resistance against a variety of assaults (physical and elemental alike), protection against environmental extremes and hostilities, and a moderate degree of mental resistance. Cosmic armor can potentially last for long periods of time, but constant use of cosmic energy, or taking too much consistent damage will eventually wear it down until it's no longer sustainable. The cosmia crystals replenish their cosmic energy reserves over a brief downtime.

PowerBlast_PowerBlast.png Energy Projection and Empowerment All Keepers have the ability to manipulate the raw form of their cosmic signature's energy. This can be focused into blasts or concentrated to enhance physical attacks. Though they can accomplish this without wearing their cosmic armor, it's to a lesser degree.

Willpower_QuickRecovery.png Peak Physicality and Delayed Aging All Keepers are enhanced to peak possible overall physicality for their race. This includes strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, basic senses, etc. Holders of the cosmia crystals also experience slower physical aging compared to the average rates of their particular race/species while their bodies are surrounded by their cosmic armor.

Willpower_RiseToTheChallenge.png Self-Sustenance While wearing their cosmic armor, a Keeper's racial life-form necessities of nourishment, hydration, etc. are universally provided by the cosmic energy itself.

Flight_TravelFlight.png Flight and Levitation Keepers surrounded with cosmic energy are capable of ignoring the effects of their personal gravity or lack thereof, accomplishing controlled levitation or flight.

BeastMastery_SummonWolves.png Cosmic Frequency Access The Cosmic Frequency is a special form of wavelength communication that only the Keepers can utilize. The cosmic frequency can take on several different forms as an umbrella term, and can be considered the Cosmic Realm equivalent of "sound waves", "signals", "brain waves" and various other radiations subtle or obvious.

DualBlades_Taunt.png Omnilinguism All Keepers can intuitively understand and communicate in/with any language, written language, dialect, body language or method by filtering all instances of such through the cosmic frequency. This only includes life-form sources, as it doesn't for example enable a Keeper to automatically decipher computer code unless said coded communication is being used by a living thing.

Ninjitsu_Hide.png Identity Masking The cosmia aura that emanates from a Keeper's armored state has the ability to warp the recognition perception of anyone outside of it, essentially resulting in others not being able to recognize them compared to their civilian identities (voice, visible physical features, mannerisms, etc.). This identity masking does not work on other Keepers, and can be "turned off" to those the Keeper willingly reveals themselves to.

EnergyAura_Overload.png Radiant Aura Keepers have the ability to extend their auras in order to protect those around them from the same environmental burdens they themselves have the privilege of ignoring.

PowerBlast_NovaBlast.png Cosmic Ascendance Keepers have the ability to temporary overclock their cosmic power and achieve a state known as 'Cosmic Ascendance' while their crystals are activated. This state makes them extremely powerful at the cost of draining their power reserves at an accelerated rate. Cosmic Ascendance is extremely difficult to accomplish without training and conditioning, making it highly unlikely for newer Keepers to tap into it. Cosmic Ascendance is visually perceived as their auras growing much brighter and larger around their forms.

Unique Powers

Unique cosmic powers are what separate the signatures and give each Keeper their own unique identity. Even if two Keepers share a similar ability, it's never perceived or used in the exact same manner. The wide range of superpowers the Keepers demonstrate can be manifested as offensive, defensive, eye-catching, subtle, solid, liquid, gaseous, vibrational, conceptual or any combination of these qualities. The nature of their cosmic powers are rooted in the specific places of the Cosmic Realm or forms from which their signature originates.

Cosmic Weapons

Every Keeper has access to a unique cosmic weapon. Through willpower a Keeper can summon their cosmic weapon to use in the physical realm. Each weapon is unique to their particular signature regardless of how many similarities they share with another cosmic weapon (there's a difference between the cosmic bows of Sagittarius and Sagitta despite both being bows). Cosmic weapons are visually perceived as the same bronze as their cosmic armor and the unique colour of their Cosmia spectrum signature. A matter of personal preference sees some Keepers keen on the consistent use of their cosmic weapons over their other abilities, especially when said abilities aren't offensive-based. Much like unique powers, the cosmic weapons the Keepers wield vary in terms of use and application. Some are melee (swords, axes, hammers, daggers, etc.), while others are ranged (bows, guns, throwing knives/stars, cannons, etc.). Some are defensive (shields, bucklers, etc.), while others are more utility-based, possess hybrid properties or even have additional non-combat uses (batteries, traps, jars, horns, fans, combs, mirrors, scopes, etc.).

Cosmic Combinations

The Keepers of the Cosmia have the ability to initiate powerful maneuvers by combining their cosmic powers together. These are referred to as cosmic combinations, or "cosmic combos" for short; the visual manifestation of such completely dependent on the various colours of the signatures involved. A minimum of five Keepers are required to accomplish these feats, but the higher the number of Keepers involved, the more powerful the result. The cosmic combos tend to be taxing and cannot be used in succession, so they are only used when necessary. These cosmic combos include:

PowerBlast_PowerBlast.png Cosmic Cannon A powerful beam of cosmic energy that is either manifested as a horizontal blast, or a vertical blast from above the target(s).

ForceField_ForceBubble.png Cosmic Curtain A large wall of solid cosmic energy that can block virtually any type of other energy from penetrating. This can also be manifested as a spherical force-field, which is more taxing, but ideal for complete 360 degree protection.

Flight_GroupFly.png Cosmic Levitation A large cosmigravitational field that can pick up, levitate and/or transport many tonnes of people and/or objects simultaneously.

PainDomination_NullifyPain.png Cosmic Recreation A rare cosmic combo that requires many Keepers to pull off, but enables them to focus their cosmic powers into restoring damage of the immediate environment.

Teleportation_GroupTeleport.png Cosmic Relocation This enables a group of Keepers to teleport from one place to another by slipping through the Cosmic Plane between relatively close distances. The range in particular depends on the number of Keepers involved but typically doesn't extend beyond the average distance of a planet and their closest moon. While their link with their Mothership's teleportational systems are technologically limited between them and the latter, cosmic relocation can be used to get from any point to another point.

-More to come.

Technology

With the wide variety of races that make up the Keeper and Cosmia Initiative numbers comes access to the wide variety of technologies from their home worlds. Only the most advanced and efficient technologies are implemented, bringing constant upgrades and refinements throughout the timeline.

Cosmic Communicators

Cosmic communicators are multi-purpose, handheld or wrist-applied devices that are used by the Keepers of the Cosmia, and are powered by cosmic energy. Each new Keeper is given a cosmic communicator from the very beginning of their new purpose by their respected Faction or Alliance. The Cosmia Initiative use a more standard version of these communicators that are powered by traditional means, and cannot access the specific cosmic frequency that only the Keepers can make the best use of.

The cosmic communicator provides:

  • A multi-way audio and/or visual hologram transceiver.
  • Access to the data encyclopedias of Motherships, comets or other prepared sources.
  • A scanner to access available surrounding channels, and to connect with already existing transceiver loops.
  • A "flashlight" mode, which can also switch to UV, infrared or black-light.
  • A personal cloaking device.
  • Access to the teleportation link system between any nearby Motherships, comets or other prepared sources in the effective area.
  • More to be developed.

Signature Harnessing

The science division of the Cosmia Initiative eventually discovered that the cosmic signatures of the eldest Keepers were much more stable and consistent in the physical realm. They developed and refined a method of taking a small essence of said signatures and imbue them into specialized containment devices that allowed non-Keepers to benefit from their power, albeit to a much lesser degree. In modern time this is demonstrated through the Chrononauts who can alter small, localized pockets of time from Horologium's signature, and the specialist medics who can project the healing energy of Ophiuchus's signature as examples.

Transportation

Every Faction or Alliance of Keepers operates from their own central Mothership, which can freely drift through space or remain stationed on the various planets and moons they assist. They use the most modern of technologies available for practical utility, offense, defense, transportation, communication, education, science and research, security, incarceration and recreation. From their hangar docking bays, each of these large spaceships also contain a handful of smaller ships called Comets, which are more appropriate for fast, short distance travel, or stealth and offensive agency.

Authority

Cosmic Jurisdiction

The Cosmia as the Keepers know it is just one piece of their Universe (the same piece across each Universe throughout the Multiverse), specifically representing that of the Local Group of Galaxies. This is where the Keepers of the Cosmia are found, remain and fight for. It is theorized that in time, the Keepers of the Local Group will soon become aware of, and work together with other Keepers throughout the entirety of the Virgo Supercluster (and beyond). This is of course assuming that more than one Cosmia exists simultaneously. The following is a list of galaxies the Keepers typically operate in and around:

  • The Andromeda Galaxy (NGC 224/M31)
  • The Barnards Galaxy (Barnards's Galaxy/NGC 6822/IC 4895/Caldwell 57)
  • The Nubecula Major Galaxy (Nubecula Major/The Large Magellanic Cloud)
  • The Cerise Galaxy (Galaxy Cerise/Messier 10/NGC 205/M110)
  • The Delta Galaxy (Galaxy Delta/Messier 32/NGC 221/M32)
  • The Milky Way Galaxy (Milky Way)
  • The Pegasus Galaxy (Peg Irr/Pegasus Dwarf/DDO 216)
  • The Nubecula Minor Galaxy (Nubecula Minor/The Small Magellanic Cloud)
  • The Triangulum Galaxy (NGC 598/M33)

Allies of the Keepers

The Cosmia Initiative

In response to the ever-increasing numbers of the Outerworld Overlord's dark matter creatures, The Cosmia Initiative was established during the great technological boom between 10,000-5,000 BCE. It is an organization that consists of non-Keepers interested in the Cosmia's cause and composed of recruits looking to put their skills to good use, those in need of a career path and purpose, victims from former homeworlds the D.M.E. has affected, and even former D.M.E. associates themselves looking for redemption or protection from the Outerworld Overlord's "zero-tolerance for failure" wrath. Operatives of the Cosmia Initiative receive the best training and technology available to them as they commonly accompany the Keepers on many of their missions and serve as crew members onboard their Motherships.

The primary Cosmia Initiative headquarters is located in the Andromeda Galaxy, though they've established outposts all throughout the Local Group of galaxies. It was the formation of the Cosmia Initiative that caused the Outerworld Overlord to start recruiting and conscripting other races into his cause more rapidly; creating what the Darkmatter Empire is known as today. The Cosmia Initiative aims to discover and nurture the natural preferences, talents and previous expertise of their combative and non-combative operatives whether they are martial artists, sharpshooters, infiltrators, spies, specialists, pilots, operators, engineers, medics, psychologists, scientists or simply just smart workers.

Paragon City

Though the Keepers of the Cosmia have made contact and established transparency and alliances with various countries across Earth, they established an official connection with Paragon City authorities specifically after the first Rikti war - as it was the primary hub of super powered individuals. The Keepers of the Cosmia were granted permission to 'park' their motherships in designated locations around the city. Despite their cooperation, the Keepers only remain open about information that is relevant to the relationship, and don't necessarily agree with every single Paragon venture if it means going against their own primary mission. The cosmic view stretches far beyond the squabbles of singular planets and their opinions and definitions surrounding relative 'hero' and 'villain' labels.

Galactic Homeworlds and Organizations

Earth is just one of many, many homeworlds; be they planet, moon or other, that the Keepers and the Cosmia Initiative retain relationships with. Prominent alliances they've made include but are not limited to: the Planetary Defense Force of Tuulamn, the Delfas Crisis Prevention Organization and the Star Forgers Guild, who are an intergalactic supergroup of the Triangulum Galaxy.

OOC Stuff

What is this Supergroup?

Thank you for taking the time to read this far. There is quite a lot of origin and backstory information surrounding the entire Keepers of the Cosmia concept, but have no fear - you don't really have to know everything all at once. After all, it's not likely your actual character is going to know every single detail themselves.

  • What's most important is knowing what to expect. The Keepers of the Cosmia is a Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Sailor Moon, whatever other "colourful comradeship" team sort of vibe. It can be nerdy, it can be camp, and it can be fun. Sprinkled with a bit of maturity when appropriate.
  • Roleplay is the primary focus of the supergroup, but it's not expected of you every single second.
  • Certain aspects of characters are predetermined (costumes, limitations on archetypes, powers, power colours, etc.), but not your character itself. Much more in depth information on character creation and expectations can be found in the "I'm Interested in Joining" section. v
  • If you are joining the supergroup, it's ideal to be active a couple days a week, as there are limited roles (more so later down the road) and it's unfair to take a slot if you're not going to be at least moderately active.
