A supremely talented operatic baritone of great renown, Quentin Rockwell dedicated his life to the art from a very young age. Despite ridicule and heavy criticism from his more industrially conservative family, Quentin set out to become the world’s greatest opera singer. He was well on his way too, until it all came crashing down.

Though he was seen as a gifted and exceptionally adroit vocalist, he was also known for his petulant temperament and occasional diva-like outbursts. The opera director along with his fellow performers tolerated his behavior only because he was as talented as he was and was reliable enough to consistently put on great performances. That all changed on his opera house’s premier performance of "Dido and Aeneas".

Around the end of the show, out of nowhere, Quentin was upstaged and outperformed by a young upstart. Caught off guard by his fellow’s transcendent and mesmerizing performance, Quentin missed several stage cues and bungled an aria. To try and save face, he capped off the disastrous performance with an embarrassingly overperformed cadenza.

Quentin was bombarded with negative reviews a few days later while his "rival" was universally praised. Quentin could’ve used the critiques to fuel his passion and drive to be better, but instead, he took the reviews personally. He was convinced he was being replaced despite the director’s insistence to the contrary. His paranoia negatively impacted his every performance, and soon, Quentin had been relegated to understudy, the most heinous of insults in his eyes.

To get back on top Quentin visited an associate of a friend, an underworld power-broker, who doled out superhuman enhancement to those who could afford it. Quentin was fitted with a bionic implant that enhanced his vocal chords, granting him perfect pitch control. While the device worked, Quentin failed to realize his voice wasn’t the problem. All he could think about were his critics and everyone he saw was laughing at him. He lost it. In a fit of rage, Quentin sang like he never sang before… and ended up shattering the eardrums of nearly everyone in attendance.

Though the incident was ruled as an accident, Quentin was still fired and blackballed from the industry. With no job, Quentin had no way of paying off his debt to the power-broker. After discovering the implant not only enhanced his vocal range but also granted him the ability to emit high-pitched, earsplitting, supersonic notes of great volume, Quentin decided to turn to crime to both recoup his losses and regain the notoriety he once possessed.

Encore, encore!

Quentin possesses a vocal cord implant that allows him to produce a number of sonic effects using his voice. In addition to generating powerful sonic blasts and producing a volume of sound ranging up to at least 140 decibels, Quentin can use his voice to manipulate and influence the actions of others.

Chord Control
Quentin can alter his voice so that every note on the scale that he sings (or shouts) induces a different effect on those that hear it. Effects include temporary blindness, vivid visual hallucinations, low level anxiety and shortness of breath, dizziness and vertigo, nausea and stomach cramping, and severe headaches and fatigue.
