Appearance

Maxie's irreducible self is contained within a small, spherical vessel made of an unknown but durable alloy approximately 35 cm in diameter. The surface is normally featureless, but she can, at will, alter the appearance of this surface, or have it produce a variety of interfaces when a physical connection is required.

For safety and convenience, Maxie rarely travels with Mina physically, instead making herself present through a variety of drones. Because large, armed drones are often too conspicuous, Mina carries a small plush cat on her shoulder, equipped with sensors and a small speaker that Maxie can access when she needs to communicate with other humans.

Personality

The personality usually presented is that of a playful friend [to those she likes].

Abilities

While the full extent of her capabilities have not been revealed, she has been observed to possess the following:

  • Innate ability to access wireless networks and defeat most non-sentient firewalls
  • PUPPETMASTER anti-drone malware capable of hijacking enemy (or friendly) drones and spreading through their command networks
  • Dancing

Footnotes

  1. NHPs, or non-human persons, are highly advanced machine minds. A "shackling" process constrains them to human frames of reference, as without this they are utterly, fundamentally alien beings, and generally regarded as extremely dangerous. The term is preferred to "artificial intelligence" because while they are intelligent, they are definitely not artificial.
  2. Variable.
  3. Excluding weapons, fuel, and ammunition, but with all drones docked.

Out-of-Character Notes

Mina (and by extension, Maxie) was originally created as a character for a campaign of the tabletop game Lancer by Massif Press that I was playing with my friends (who were playing the rest of the crew of the Anansi) that kind of fizzled. Mina's memory loss as pertains to the time immediately before her time jump is a narrative necessity to handle the fact that I can't rule out that campaign starting back up, but at the same time I can't know how it ends. Maxie just refuses to talk about it and whispers cryptic warnings if asked. MAXIM-62 won't be repaired until CoX lets us have actual giant mechs, but maybe Maxie will get a handy little body to ride around in some time. Seriously, though, Lancer has some rad worldbuilding, but Mina's backstory makes very little sense without explaining at least some of it.
