Mara is always eager to prove herself. It is not surprising since her mother was a Power Division member. Right now, her mother is serving a life sentence. Someone has thrown her mother in jail and made Mara work for them. She needs to comply to keep her last family member safe.
Mara Nishimura (aka. Athanasia) was a Power Division member and a warrant officer working for the PPD. The police division needs her skill to bring down rogue metahumans. Not an easy task since fresh recruits quickly replaced captured resistance members. Luckily for her, a recruiter unwittingly brought Mara into their rank. Working as a double agent, she crippled and neutralized multiple terror cells operating in Neutropolis. Mara went on later to serve as an operative for The Ministry. She became a liaison to its agents, who worked as insiders. Thanks to her network of allies and her tenacity, The Ministry managed to curb organized crimes. Sadly, despite her effort, her luck ran out. A mole abducted Mara for a ransom. He wanted to trade her with a drug lord, who was serving in jail. The Ministry ruined her rescue, and Mara had been missing ever since.

It is not as bad as it sounds.

Her mother did a terrible thing back then. Mara considers her ordeal as an atonement for her mother's crime. She hopes that one day she will find and rescue her. Then Mara will unleash her revenge upon her tormentors. She has concocted a plan for those people who have unjustly punished her mother.
==Early Life==
Mara was born on {{Redact|YYYYMMDD}}, in Neutropolis, Praetoria. Her parents, Keiji and Amelia, separated when Keiji uncovered his wife's infidelity. Amelia, a top dog of Power Division, involved herself in an affair with several men. One of them was a resistance spy who was using her to steal intel and bypass security measures. Heartbroken, Keiji left Amelia to rot in jail and disowned his daughter. He abandoned Mara when she was ten, even though a DNA test confirmed Mara as her daughter.

Whatever her motive is, she is now fighting for the good people of Praetoria. If she persists, she may achieve fame and greatness more than her mother ever had. Everyone will remember her as the woman who restores and completes her mother's legacy.
Following her mother's footsteps, Mara joined the Power Division. Unlike her mother, she didn't aim for the top. Mara genuinely cares about her colleagues and respects her seniors, including her mother's detractors. She still had to endure too many hardships, but she prevailed. Her charm afforded her many circles of friends, despite her checkered past. Within a year or so, Mara had built networks of friends and colleagues.

==Personality==
==Personality==
Mara loves socializing. She had many circles of associates to give her news and gossips in Praetoria. She talks a lot, especially whenever her friends are around. Her subjects range from fashion fads to politics. Nevertheless, it is prudent to steer away from politics, since she will passionately speak non-stop about it. Sometimes she may break your hands, too.
The young officer relies on her nature and skills to succeed in her tasks. Mara talks a lot, especially whenever her friends are around. She had many circles providing her with news and gossips in Praetoria. This knowledge helped Mara in shaping her plan. If it did not do, she improvised a new one. Then again, Mara was also a psychic. She had her mother's gene. At first, her powers were so weak that she felt useless, but they eventually got stronger. One of her abilities was well known: Mara could control how people perceive the flow of time. The rest of them were subtler; she could stop anyone from probing her mind, and her words compelled people to obey.

When there is trouble, Mara always comes up with a scheme to deal with it. Her plan works most of the time. When it fails, she will put another plan on top of it to deal with the failure and the original problem. When things get too convoluted, her colleagues save the day by delegating them to the PPD. Mara and her cohorts are infamous among PPD officers.

Mara also loves her country. She strives to expand Praetoria's power and influence. Once she has rescued her mother, she would share her culture with those less developed countries on Primal Earth.

==Powers and Abilities==
Mara is a natural leader. She knows which person to assign for a particular task, and she always corrects on her assessment. Her ability to pick the most relevant piece of information also helps. Whenever conditions change, she is ready with a new plan.

Being a Power Division, she is good at combat. She is petite, but her powers give her advantages. She can slow down her opponents, makes them go faster, or mix and match. The result is her targets get too slow, tired, and confused to fight her. Her strategy works on most of her enemies, except psychics.

==Weakness==
Mara hates psychics because she has no resistance against them. Even her partners from PPD have better results in fighting psychics.
Her powers don't help her too much. Most of the time, she will need someone to rescue her from their grip.

Finally, she is a sore loser. Mara considers defeat as a personal insult. Once, she tried to take down an app because it shares her Induction Ceremony match. It involves a controller, her, and a lot of tentacles.

==Character Background==
Mara had spent years asking the judge to give her mother leniency, but her words did not sway the judge.
Mara's mother, Amelia, was a Power Division member with a rare gift. She could influence how people perceive the flow of time. Under Praetor White's guidance, she became the most influential female member of the rank. She was ruthless, and her sway was unparalleled. When a rookie challenged Amelia, she destroyed her family.

This incident became a turning point for her career. Her partners left in disgust or distanced themselves. Their successors didn't trust her, which weakened her authority even further. Alas, her trouble would get worse.
==Cooperating with the PPD==

A few months later, Mara arrived. She inherits Amelia's special gift. She had to join The Power Division when she was old enough. Her future made her mother worried. Amelia's rivals would surely get their revenge through Mara.

Amelia can't protect Mara from harm forever, so she hatched a plan. A few bribes and several false records to buy her more time. She would send Mara away before she gracefully quit her post. Those efforts were too little and too late. Unlike Amelia, Mara's power emerged at a very young age. The disturbance was short but strong enough to attract inquiry. Once a probe from Nova was on its way, her fall became inevitable.

The judge found Mara's parents guilty of fraud and tampering. He gave Amelia a life sentence, but Amelia's husband got a lighter sentence. Before Amelia served her sentence, she named her mentor as Mara's guardian.

Mara would never see or hear from her father again. He filed a divorce after he had served his sentence. A few hours later, he returned to his kin in New Tokyo.

A few months before Mara's 18th birthday, her guardian invited a magistrate from Nova. This man studied Amelia's crime years ago. He knew there was something fishy about the case. Amelia was allegedly helping the resistance when someone caught her falsifying documents. He tried to repeal the case, but someone blocked his attempts at every turn.

Recently, they upped the effort by blackmailing him. They had evidence that he was Amelia's past lover. Even worse, his amorous bond continued during her marriage. They warned him they would leak the affair. He ceased his pursuit to protect his status, but he had a plan. He knew he could get new data from Amelia's colleagues. The magistrate wanted evidence, but he didn't want to be exposed. Thus, he enlisted Mara's help. To aid Mara, he would share all of his inquiries. It was up to Mara to gather the proof.

Mara's first task was to curb the resistance activity in her area. The movement had splintered into two different camps. One of them was The Wardens. Mara regarded them as a more reasonable and better target to persuade. At least, both Mara and The Wardens highly valued Praetoria's safety. She would later use The Wardens for her ends once Mara had influenced them.

Mara picked a few trusted fellows as her inner circle. She proposed to infiltrate the resistance to gain enough influence. Once they had control, they would subvert The Wardens for their gain. Each member used a fake name to protect their safety. Mara took Athanasia as her call sign. Mara, as the leader, would secure funding for her teams and directed the cells. Members from PPD would pull a few strings to ensure smooth operations. The rest of the team from the Power Division, including Mara, would slip into the targets.

There was one problem. Mara misjudged her ability to keep the plot hidden. She was shocked when a senior officer recognized her as Athanasia. That officer was not the only one. Her superiors had figured out her deed, but they let it run its course. Luckily, the PPD let Mara out of the hook. Her effort had reduced the violence rate by foiling the extremist. It allowed them to focus on syndicated crimes. In the end, Mara got a commendation rather than jail time. Mara also won respect from her mother's old friends. PPD still had Mara grilled for 12 hours in the interrogation room before they congratulated her, though.

Mara got clues from her mother's former co-workers. Years ago, Amelia unfairly broke her junior, which ended the rookie's career and ruined a family. Amelia didn't know that he was an heir to a wealthy clan from Imperial City. The family did not take the humiliation upon their kin kindly. They plotted revenge. Once they learned Amelia was breaking the law, they attacked swiftly.  They planted fake evidence, and the rest was history. The old officer warned Mara to avoid her mother's case. The Syndicate had all Praetoria under their control. If she persisted, she would end up like her mother, or worse.
==The Ministry Operative==
Mara's job was to gather intel from her targets and send them to The Ministry. These data usually came from many sources, but most of them came from her target's brain. It was Mara's job to pull it out because this job required her unique skill. In a world where mind-probing is common, many people acquired the ability to seal their minds. A few ways to open their mind are exhaustion and pain, which Mara dutifully inflicted via her psychic powers while her colleague was taping their mind.

Fate must hate Mara since The Syndicate was her next target. This time, she took her assignment carefully since her last mishap gave her 12 hours of torture. She couldn't let it happen again, or the next one could be her last.
The job had its benefits too. It required Mara to mingle with Praetoria's upper class. Just like what her mother did years ago, Mara used her power to sway many of them, including a young accountant from Kantir Corp. It also allowed Mara to mend her bond with Keiji and the Nishimura. They, except Keiji, warmly welcomed Mara since having her in The Ministry would help them in the long run. Sadly, she could not impress her father. Her motive may explain her soft stance toward the Nishimura. Her critics claimed that she applied a double standard when her family broke the law.

There was a rumor linking Syfotine with an ESS device. Syfotine called it a hoax and denied any involvement. On a human, ESS triggers the desired action while suppressing other behavior. While it could pacify an unruly mob, it could produce the opposite effect. On the wrong hand, it could agitate the masses. Worse, there is no way to trace anyone already affected by it.
Later in her career, Mara was investigating a new mind-control program. Its initial purpose was to calm an unruly mob, but someone altered the design. The early version forced its target to do tasks rather than merely gave a soothing vibe. The later version encoded itself into its victim's memory and activated after some time. In laymen's terms, it turned its victim into a sleeper agent. Worse, there is no way to trace anyone already affected by it.

After a few months, PPD found a breakthrough. Mara located an ESS device in a warehouse. A group of Syndicates was guarding it, so she asked for backups to storm the place. However, when the squad had arrived, Mara and the ESS were nowhere to be found.
Mara was very close to crack the case open when she received a distress call. She raced to aid her agent, but her luck ran out. When the rescue team arrived, both Mara and her agent had already gone. The agent, who turned out to be a mole, abducted Mara. He wanted The Ministry to release a drug lord in exchange for Mara's safety, but The Ministry did not respond to his demand. They sent a doomed rescue team, which sealed her fate.

Mara would appear a week later when a maintenance crew found her in the deep part of the underground tunnel. She was confused, injured, and no longer recognized her friends. PPD sent Mara to BAF to save her. It didn't work too well. Mara went into a coma a day later and placed in suspended animation to save her life.
==Rumors of Survival==
There were a few rumors regarding Mara's fate; most of them came from Elten Town survivors. The town militias intercepted a convoy destined to First Ward because they thought it was a medical supply. It was a prisoner transport bound to Arclight Lab, with its inmates gone. Hours later, the Carnivals had rescued a woman in her late 40s and her daughter before they brought them to the compound. Both women claimed rogue scientists had run horrible experiments on them before they fled. According to a witness, the daughter had many similarities to Mara. Their restraints and nullifier devices were also giveaways to their origin. The escapees joined the militia afterward. They had rescued many citizens from the slavers and many other dangers in First Ward before they disappeared for the last time when the Devouring Earth invaded. Both women gave their lives to protect Elten Town citizens while they were crossing to safety.
