Homeworld of Enchantment.

The World Most Current

Forty-seven dimensional planes distant from Primal Earth lies the planet Ranall, a lighter-gravity world of magic, swords, and dragons. It is the home of Enchantment, who served as the world's Grand Archmage until her arrival in Paragon City. Ranall is overwhelmingly peaceful - almost idyllic - yet this is a recent thing, brought about after decades of wars which the Archmage and her allies waged against tyrannical villains.

The Ancient History of Ranall

Thousands of years ago upon that distant plane, Ranall was a star-faring, conquering empire. Their histories record that the Empire stretched to every star visible in the night sky, and further. They were a formidable galactic power with few rivals, until their arcanotech researchers developed the final technology the Empire needed to overwhelm their adversaries: highly-advanced, miniscule, zepto-scale devices which when introduced into a being with magical talent would both amplify the results of their magics, and greatly assist with the intricate rituals the bearer attempted. It was revolutionary. These devices soon became the backbone of Ranallian innovation and power, used in arcanotech manufacturing, weapons development, ship design, resource cultivation, exploration, shipping and travel, and more. With these devices, nothing was unimaginable for the Ranallians: Lightyear-long battleships, hand-held weapons with the power of WMDs, the construction of planets, and even the creation of new sub-dimensions. No political or military body could withstand the expansion of Ranall...and none did until their collapse from within.

The G.E.L.s, and the Races of Ranall

As the Ranallian Empire spread throughout the cosmos, the unique physical demands of each conquered world (and the vain decadence of the Ranallian peoples themselves) were met through the efforts of G.E.L.s - Genetic Enhancement Laboratories. The current population of the planet Ranall is the result of these enhancements: historically, every elf and dwarf is actually a genetically modified Ranallian. Sentient species unique to Ranall such as the lithovoric Reekan or the slime-like Sheel are also G.E.L.-descendants, developed for more hostile planets. The sentient dragons and their diminutive dragonathee cousins are descendants of the Ancient Ranallians' pets.

One of the notable exceptions to the G.E.L. races of Ranall are the Androids, who much like their name implies, were artificial constructs of the Ranallian Empire given sentience through their advanced A.I. sciences. These beings are life-like, even possessing all the necessary biological functions to continue their existence through procreation - yet the population density of the Androids is very sparse, and cross-breeding with another race always results in a pure-blooded Ranallian.

Ranallians themselves are very much like their Primal Earth counterparts - yet they are descended from their biologically-optimal, gene-edited ancestors. Ranallians are nigh-immune to diseases, live longer lives with proportionally longer youth, have high metabolisms, are more physically capable (an advantage negated by their lighter-gravity world), and are almost always attractive.

The G.E.L.s still exist in an active state in some places upon Ranall, though several millennia of disuse has limited their functionality, and extremely few of the populace know of them. With their current capabilities, G.E.L. facilities can mainly de-age individuals, or boost one of their abilities.

The Magic of Ranall and Zeptites

True magic exists throughout the cosmos of Ranall's home plane, yet while a mage can do everything with Ranallian magic that those on Earth can, it functions at a weaker state overall compared to Primal Earth and Praetoria in its unassisted form. The Zeptite swarms injected into magically-capable Ranallian soldiers during the heights of the Empire melded their magics with technologies capable of projecting energy, replicating matter, magical energy collection, and the abilities to amplify spell power, calculate advanced magical techniques quickly, and weave a spell as fast as only a high-precision machine could. While the Empire fell, these Zeptite swarms flowing within the Ranallians' bloodstreams were passed down from generation to generation. By the current era, every Ranallian - capable of casting magic or not - has the same military Zeptites flowing through their blood.

Advanced crafting techniques upon Ranall in the present day make use of these Zeptites as well. There is much tradition and meaning behind a well-crafted magical suit of armor, for the crafter bestows a portion of their nanites into their creations by adding a portion of their own blood into the craft.

It has been recently discovered by Enchantment that the military-grade Zeptites of Ranall do not function properly on Primal Earth, Praetoria, or their associated spheres of planes. They lie in a mostly-dormant state, unable to assist with magical manipulation. The military-grade Zeptites, it turns out, depend upon laws of nature and rules of physics that simply do not exist upon these planes. Custom-created Zeptites appear to be unaffected by this, owing perhaps to their simpler construction and much-diminished capabilities. Enchantment "wears" a set of these custom-created Zeptite swarms - they are known as the Stars of Wisdom.

The Ignitable Weapons

Weapons of Mass Destruction in the palm of your hand, the Ignitable Weapons were formed from a ruggedized variant of military Zeptite technology. They take all manner of forms - Scepters, Bows, and Staves for example, and take their name from the effect produced when their fearsome destructive powers are activated. The weapon seems to ignite in an overwhelming brilliance of rainbow-hued energy, razing all obstacles before the wielder, leaving nothing in the wake of its destruction. The most prominent battlefields upon Ranall have literally turned to smooth planes of glass as Ranallian heroes bearing the Ignitable Weapons took on the myriad forces of the villains of their world.

The Scepter Ignitable is special among these Ignitable Weapons. Not only does it generate the localized cosmic destruction of the other weapons, but it has also been imbued with the powers to generate pocket dimensions, to manifest a gigantic mech "Exosuit", and most importantly, the ability to shut down all other military-grade Zeptites within a 100 foot radius. Enchantment found the Scepter Ignitable whole upon the Lightyear Ship, within the quarters of the Emperor.

Thankfully, like all Ranallian military Zeptites, only by replicating the laws of nature and rules of physics on Ranall can these weapons be restored to function, and Enchantment bore only one with her when she portaled to Earth - The Scepter Ignitable.

Bestiary of Ranall

Enchantment brought up two kinds of monsters that exist upon Ranall: the hawkbears and the misshapen. Both are the result of G.E.L. manipulations.

Hawkbears were developed as pets and circus animals during Ancient Ranall's Empire. Their names are also descriptive - bear bodies with hawk-like faces and claws. There is a certain noble bearing to their genetic design.

The misshapen are the results of malfunctioning G.E.L. equipment over the course of centuries and millennia. Many of the Dragonslayer's armies were comprised of forcefully-created misshapen.

Notable Ranallians on Primal Earth

Enchantment - The Grand Archmage Elle Harkenshire led the world of Ranall's heroes through the Dragonslayer Wars, and now dwells in Paragon City as the spell-wielding superhero Enchantment.

The Knight With Eyes As The Summer Sky - Otherwise known as Lady Techele Qualibryn, or simply "The Knight", she was sent here by Elle after the Dragonslayer Wars had ended. When the Knight did not contact Elle after several months, the Grand Archmage began her search in Paragon City.
