'''''"Life will always be tough, but one must overcome the worst to show those that want you to fall that you cannot."'''''

Many years ago, a hard-working fire-fighter named Scott Garrick who worked tenaciously hard to bring hope to those caught in the crossfire met a relatively decent woman named Diana Goleman who came from a relatively decent amiability background and worked as a philosopher teacher to spread wisdom and love. Together they admired each other's heroic efforts and deeds and fell in love, together they agreed upon marriage and allowed their families to know. Unfortunately, the news wasn't exactly what they expected. Both their families dislike one another, finding Scott as an unsuccessful man, and Scott's family finds her as someone who lacks the "right" qualities of a perfect woman to suit him. They both argued with their families and simply saw them as someone who didn't value and respected their life choices.
Unfortunately, the man who took care of him became a victim of a street crime, though Matt was saddened, Matt took the life lesson as a form of installment drilled into him, despite countless street fights, he often overcame them, physically hardening himself through training at local playgrounds and other places, even the gym itself often was open personally for him after the gym owner took notice upon his constant self-care of his physical health, but he also helped others in need, he became known in the urban areas as the "homeless samaritan". He was often helping out those in need, even the privileged ones. He carried on his good deeds, unfortunately, those very good deeds also placed him situation such as one that would place him in incarceration. One night he decided to stay over at a homeless shelter for a place to sleep for a few days, until he noticed distress from a distance of a merely innocent homeless woman harassed by a vile homeless shelter worker, Matt intervened and told him to leave her alone which to the worker told him to go away, he continued to avoid the warnings, as Matt told him to leave her alone again, the worker tried to attack him only to be utterly defeated by him hard. A homeless woman thanked Matt for his heroic deed, unfortunately. Another worker who was ignorant of the situation arrived later when the fight ensued.

Regardless, they settled and started a life of their own, and since then, gotten a child together and named their son after Grant. But despite their happiness. Misery occurred, and both their families cut off contact with both Scott and Diana. They faced severe financial troubles and conflicts with Scott being severely injured during his work which forced him to leave his work from a career-ending injury, causing a major shift that resulted in the poor family being evicted from their home. Now forced to live in the streets with no family connections left to have connections with, lost in the streets of Paragon City but simply did their best to give hope to their blessed child to never get hurt, regardless of what obstacles may arrive at their path. The family did befriend many fellow homeless folks.
The worker immediately called the police and like that. Matt Everett was arrested based on false allegations, which didn't help the fact the worker who was beaten by the homeless man fabricated the situation to worsen Matt's case, despite the homeless woman's protests. The police weren't too keen on taking any words from homeless folks at the end, merely viewing them as junkies. Matt was sentenced to a year in prison, now locked up, one would assume that Matt's heroic deeds were all for nothing as he wasn't rewarded anything back for his valiance and had every reason to become pessimistic...

Creating a decent friendship with many as they supported each other and the child. Grant grew up homeless but was taken care of relatively fine despite the hardships they faced. That was until the age of seven, when some "decent" donor arrived and gave food to plenty of homeless folks in Paragon City, including his parents given as well food too. They all began to suddenly become very ill and tragically passed away middle of the streets from what could seem to be a "food poisoning" situation. Grant no longer has parents but was raised by his now-deceased father's friend Karson. Karson became his closest adoptive father figure who kept him safe but also taught him to stay strong from any major obstacles that may occur. During the tough times, they faced. He taught Grant how to fight at a youthful age.
But not for Matt, he began to work even ''' harder''', with the use of the gym in the prison and even some training from a prisoner who is famed for brawls and winning every one of them, saw a dutiful spirit within Matt and without hesitation, took him in as his friend and taught him to fight even more than he was already capable of. After his sentence was finished, he was left in the streets of Paragon City yet again, Matt continued his good intentions of helping those in need, one cold night. He yet again decided to seek shelter but to evade the very problems again, he decided to go to Faultline, where he found an abandoned place, never liking the idea of becoming a squatter, he had no choice but to stay there for few days til the weather changes, but upon going there. He stumbled upon a base, left abandoned, surrounded by cobwebs, and there he found a lifeless android body, Matt was confused and opened closer inspection, he accidentally activated the android, awakened after a long slumber. Matt began to ask the android the questions, to which the android known as '''The Engineered''' replied that he used to be a member of a team called '''[[The Ideals]]''', though vanquished from the fierce battle that caused the losses of the Ideals against the '''Black Maven''', a sadistic witch.

Grant carried an action figure he found in the streets which was a colorful superhero wielding a shield, a reminder of hope and peace but also safety whenever he's alone whenever Karson is out to find some food for both of them to feast. Grant during his teenage years began to exercise by himself and learn to adapt to the worst he faced but never lost hope in those times, until at the age of sixteen, Karson was falsely accused of an unprofessional cop who shot him down after being mistakenly assumed to be a bad guy they were chasing for weeks. Grant yet again, lost someone to the disgracefulness of humanity. But still kept on going but could simply mourn and cry for his friend. Grant throughout his adolescence grew up all alone but remained strong as ever and never gave up at all.
Matt knew what he must do and needs to be done.

Despite his ignorance without any proper education or affordance for school, he managed by learning his parents and others how to speak and act which gave him at least the capacity of intelligence without remaining confused, but because of his adaptation. He was able to go around the block without being harmed. He faced numerous street fights and even impressed most and gave him free lessons because of his respectful attitude and gentle heart he displayed for it. Earning him a lot of combative skills to protect himself as he continuously exercises himself through strength, workout, and combative practice to defend himself. At the age of twenty-two. Grant found himself a homeless shelter to stay at for restfulness, despite finding comfort there for a while and could sleep well at night.

He heard an innocent homeless woman in distress begging to be let go when being harassed inappropriately by a heinous worker there who tried to take advantage of the poor homeless person. Grant stepped in and kindly asked him to leave her and respect her personal space, the worker protested which he tried to fight but Grant effortlessly without breaking a sweat won the fight with a simple direct punch to his face. Despite rescuing the innocent lady from that incident, the timing was bad as another ignorant worker was caught at the wrong time and assumed the good samaritan was merely a mentally ill hobo who randomly attacked a worker. Immediately called the cops and they arrested Grant despite the homeless lady's protest of his heroism. He was incarcerated for at least a year.

He used his time and resources to further strengthen himself inside there through personal exercise. Using the gym equipment to augment himself further, exercising harder, and even befriending a lot of fellow inmates who respected him heavily for the kindness and tenacity he displayed. Earned a status there as a good individual who many argued doesn't belong inside the prison. After he was freed from imprisonment, he was brought back to the streets of Paragon City again, now again all alone in the streets as usual. That was until the age of twenty-four. Things took a huge turn when the infamous Rikiti Invasion arrived. With many civilian lives screaming in fear and misery from the Rikitis invading, Grant took it upon himself to defend them as he took a nearby stop sign as his shield to defend himself and others.

He fought against the aliens heroically, and offered aid for police officers and firemen for crowd control, even as far as helping out and shielding many superheroes who were far above him from said attacks during the battle. Whoever he is, he was extremely brave without any fear displayed in the heat of the battle. Despite his heroic efforts during the tough times, when the invasion ended after The Freedom Phalanx handled the situation, Grant took part in helping clean the mess as well, many were in fact surprised by his heroic deeds regardless, no matter what he is or who he is. He helped out the civilians more than himself. When things went back to normal and him going back to being a homeless hobo his usual lifestyle, he witnessed something miracle upon him, something wholesome.

The very people he rescued during the invasion, began to help out other homeless people who were inspired by the good samaritan's sudden heroism in the battle. He teared up with joy and reassurance, he looked over the stop sign that he carried around with, him and realized what his life from now on will be like. And chose that new life he will pursue for the rest of his life. He vowed to become an adventurer, believing that his heroism can inspire other people to do good in the world, and believes that if he becomes a hero, he could inspire them to do good as well to make changes for the best if he can't save the world. He can inspire people in it to save it together inspired by his heroic deeds. He joined in many daring ventures with many heroes which many offered to help further augment him.

Through a long-processing transition and development, he became a full-fledged costumed adventurer with an impervium shield he was gifted during the long developing adventures he's been through and still does, he decided to take upon on a name he would come to be recognized by many for his bravery and fearlessness and something that he can represent in darkest hours as the one that glows with a light that represents hope in those disastrous moments. Someone that is the defense of humanity and beyond, someone who inspires and leads them into the right path through his heroic deeds and gentle heart, someone who keeps them safe when all hopes seem to be lost but brings out with his tenacity and heroism, someone who will stand in front of others when they cry for need and as; The Silver Shield!
