Brett Holt is an alchemist, shopkeeper and part-time hero currently residing in Talos Island.

Backstory

Early years

Brett was born in Paragon City, to a mage father and a non-magical mother, who immigrated over from the UK. His family belongs to a coven in Cornwall, devoted to the study of magic. The coven specializes in alchemy, which is where Brett's love of the craft came from. His parents moved back to the UK a few years after he graduated from college, and they still keep in touch. His sisters moved out some time before that, when they were old enough to.

He chose to not go back to the coven, as he wanted to use his gifts to do more good than he could have while sitting in an old tower all day. So, he decided to settle down in Talos Island and set up shop.

Present day

Brett is the owner of a magic shop on the outskirts of Talos Island (the mainland area) called Holt Apothecary. He crafts most of the shop's wares himself, including potions, charms and wards. Holt Apothecary is registered with Paragon City Hall as a hero supply base.

He is currently affiliated with the Northern Star supergroup, acting as a supplier and support teammate for them. He also occasionally does volunteer work for City Hall, as a courier for supplies to hazard zones.

Personality

Brett is a kind person, but he is a bit shy around strangers. He does not always understand sarcasm and humor, and tends to shrink away or panic when faced with conflict he cannot solve. He speaks with a sort of Mid-Atlantic accent, due to being raised by British parents in America, and tends to enunciate his words with care. Quite introverted, he feels most at home while cooped up in his workshop, working on his latest batch of potions or charms.

Magic

Brett has practiced levitation well enough to not need an incantation to perform it anymore. He also owns a magic handkerchief which acts as a collection of small pocket dimensions that he can summon from or dismiss to at will. Other spells he knows (and their incantations) are:

Alchemy

Brett is an accomplished alchemist, though he usually sells his potions and charms to clients rather than use them all for himself. His workshop contains several bookshelves of recipe books and other magical tomes, which he uses in his craft. Some of his shop's most popular sales are healing potions and regeneration potions.

• His in-game powersets are Empathy and Dark Blast, which are generally roleplayed as various splash potions.
• He wears charms (rings) that provide some defense to psychic powers, so attempting to read his mind or communicate telepathically seldom work.
