Paula Bunyan is a giantess named after her renowned forebear, Paul Bunyan. The tales of Paul Bunyan's exploits grew in the telling, as did he. He was, by any measure, a tower of a man, standing some 9 feet tall, but that is far short of the various heights ascribed to him by writers of fanciful tall tales who had him variously as 49 feet tall, 101 feet tall, and "half again as tall as the Rockies". As a lumberjack in the 1800s in Minnesota, Paul did the work of any six men, themselves stout laborers, which certainly led to the exaggerations of his strength and size. The real Bunyan sired 7 children by his wife Agnes, herself a formidable woman who stood 6'2" tall. None of his children or grandchildren attained Paul's imposing stature, until the birth of his great-granddaughter Paula. She tops out at 8'4" tall, and has the strength to match.
Growing up on a farm in rural Colorado, Paula read everything she could about her famous ancestor, and set about to imitate his feats. She found that lumberjacking -- or in her case, lumberjilling -- wasn't to her liking, but she did enjoy learning to master axe-wielding. She is a 3-time 2nd-place finisher of the Lumberjack World Championship held each year in Hayward, Wisconsin, dominating most of the competitions except for logrolling. Her size precludes her being competitive in that arena. The first year she competed, she inadvertently launched her competitor into the crowd. He was uninjured but once the laughter subsided she was unfortunately disqualified. In all other aspects of the sport, however, she conquered all her competitors.
She currently lives in Paragon City where she has been putting her skills and strength to good use repelling invasions by aliens, zombies, and other ne'er-do-wells.
